Self-help tips to healthy feet
Healthy feet are essential for comfort and safe walking and there are lots of things you can do to look after them:
- Wash your feet daily to help prevent any infections
- Cut your toenails straight across, never at an angle or down the edge as this may cause an ingrown nail. You may need help with this from your chiropodist or a toenail cutting service
- Try to keep your feet warm. If your feet are cold, don’t try and warm them up by putting them close to a fire or on a hot radiator as this risks chilblains
- Chose the best footwear
- If you need urgent treatment, contact a private chiropodist
A podiatrist (chiropodist) can help you with common foot problems, including ingrown toenails and bunions. You can look online to:
- Find a local podiatrist
- Check your podiatrist is registered
If you:
- are worried about falls or have had a fall, check out prevent falls
- need help with normal daily activities after illness or injury
