GP specialist services
We would like to see more specialist services provided within our community, allowing care closer to home.
Some of these services may be run by the main hospitals but work with GP premises to bring them closer to where you live. Other services may be run by GPs, because they have additional skills in a particular area.
As a primary care network we also want to ensure that we work with other organisations to prevent diseases occuring in the first place. We are also working on these projects and you can learn about them as they develop.
Acute Community Eyecare Scheme (ACES) Somerset
ACES is a free service available to all patients registered with a Somerset GP. The service provides patients experiencing recently occurring medical eye conditions with appropriate treatment closer to home. The service is provided by local optometrists with the specialist knowledge and skills to carry out this work at a locally approved opticians.
Fit for my future
A current project to bring health and social care into the community and work together to achieve this.
This includes the development of our community hospitals. You can learn more about this at fit for my future.
Skin cancer management
Surgical treatment of certain types of skin cancer occurs at Cranleigh Gardens medical centre by Dr Cathryn Dillon.
This is mainly basal cell carcinomas (BCC). If you have this diagnosis then your GP can refer you for local treatment of this condition. Dr Dillon also manages more complex cases of skin cancer on the face from across Somerset.
